Cutting Perfect Glass Circles

After much trial and error, my mentor taught me this method of circle cutting, everyone will have a preferred way, but as this works for me I thought I would share.

Get hold of float glass to practice on!!!

Start with big circles.

Mark with a sharpie where you start, so you can stop in the same place.

Draw around the central sucker so if it does move you may be able to rescue the cutting.

Once scored sweep off all tiny slivers with a soft brush.

Turn over onto a swept flat surface, then, using the ball end of a standard glass scorer, press the ball on the score in a rolling back and forth motion, do this in several places until the score runs. Chase this run around the circle, from about 1cm behind the run with the ball end of your scorer.

To release the glass, draw a straight line about 1cm from edge of the circle on 2 sides, as if you are going to cut the 2 sides of the circle off.

Score from 1cm outside of the circle to the outside edge on these four lines. if you use cut runners on these 4 lines your circle will be released, as the lines will run around the outer edges of the circle that is between them.

Image below, excuse the poor quality but hopefully it shows what I an saying!

Lots of people have suggested I only post as a patron, but I want to keep this free for any budding glass artists to access. If you would like to drop a few pounds in my coffee fund you can do so here. No pressure Iā€™m just happy to see others being creative.
